Uptake 2: Lets CHAT
Week two let's go :)
I have found learning about CHAT very interesting. I like breaking down the production of different genres into digestible sections, it makes it a lot easier for me to tackle challenging assignments when segmenting them into steps I need to take instead of one big "DO IT" written in my mind. So the concept of CHAT was inherently appealing to me! If you can't tell by my upload time, I am a huge procrastinator, not something extremely relevant but looking at how I choose to do school work CHAT reminds me of how I work best. With a clear structure and plan for the events and tasks I need to understand or accomplish. (In editing I am not sure if you can see the time this is uploaded but to prove my point it is indeed Sunday night)
Taking advice from the article "Write terribly" I am going to do just that and instead of looking at a blank page just write my thoughts on CHAT and edit later (Grammarly is my best friend tbh). I have a decent idea of many of CHAT's concepts: production, distribution, socialization, and reception feeling self-explanatory. Ecology started out very difficult to grasp but after your explanation in class, it was more simple than I thought. Just looking at the environment around when creating something and the limitations and opportunities presented with that space. Hearing the term "activity" did not come as easily as the four I originally listed. It seems easy now but for some reason, it took me reading over the slides and provided texts again more carefully for me to understand. It is just what you are doing when creating the genre. So simple now but I think my antecedent knowledge caused me to complicate the concept. When I hear "activity," I think of physical activity, and trying to figure out how jumping jacks and jogging fit into the process of writing was a strange task.
Reading over the slides now representation still seems a bit off. Rereading the end section of "Angela Rides the Bus" and the example helps a bit. I suppose I understand it as what the creator intends for the audience to feel/understand and how they achieve that. But I still feel unsure about that definition. I hope that my use throughout the unit will help me better grasp the concept.
